This magnificent Medicine Buddha, also known as the Medicine Master, King of Lapis Lazuli Light, is named so due to His mercy and compassionate ability to protect you and your family members from all kinds of illnesses. The Medicine Buddha has made a vow to help those who seek Him when they are sick or injured, and to help those who revere Him achieve a long and healthy life.
"His radiant body is sky blue. His left hand is in the meditation mudra and holds a begging bowl filled with long-life nectar in His lap. As a sign that He provides protection from illness, His right hand is extended in the giving gesture and holds the "great medicine," the myrobalan plant (a-ru-ra)."

In Tibetan images of the Medicine Buddha, the left hand typically holds a flowering myrobalan plant. Tibetan medicine recognizes three basic types of diseases, whose fundamental causes are conflicting emotions: passion, aggression, and ignorance.
Myrobalan is the only herb in the Tibetan pharmacopeia that can help cure each of these three types of diseases. This is like the action of the Healing Buddha, who has the power to see the true cause of any affliction, whether spiritual, physical, or psychological, and who does whatever is necessary to alleviate it.
